Follow the process previously detailed in this course content; Persuasive Writing to write a well-organized, solidly edited, persuasive essay.
Make sure to include your support through textual evidence of direct quotations with in-text citations. Properly frame the support and cite your sources.
Consider your word choice and work to ensure a well-structured introduction and conclusion. Use what you’ve learned about adding phrases to improve your sentence variety.
Your response should include the following:
Introductory paragraph – with a clearly written thesis that follow the guidelines from the lesson;
A minimum of three body paragraphs – each paragraph discusses a separate point with textual evidence in the form of a direct quotation with an in-text citation;
Conclusion paragraph – wrap up your essay by reminding the reader of your thesis and writing an interesting and persuasive argument that refers back to the pieces of literature that you have used to prove your thesis!
Given that this unit is about war and peace, you probably saw this coming. You will write your persuasive essay on ONE of the following question:
Through the literature you have read in this module, Is sustained world peace possible? Why or why not?
Through the literature you have read in this module, can wars or violent conflicts have any positive consequences for humankind?
Through the literature you have read in this module, which is the most effective way to bring about real change in society: violent means (i.e., war, conflict, etc.) or peaceful means (i.e. conflict prevention/resolution, embargoes, peacekeeping, etc.).
You can argue the affirmative or the negative. The speeches you have listened to in this unit can be used as sources. Be sure to include a works cited page that uses proper MLA formatting. An example of a persuasive essay is in the course content. You have to scroll down and click example to see the example.
Write multiple paragraphs. (Introduction -thesis/Body/Conclusion). Highlight your thesis statement in blue.
Include a minimum of 3 pieces of support through textual evidence of direct quotations with in-text citations explanation and analysis. Highlight your textual evidence in yellow.
Include precise persuasive language. (Appeals, rhetorical devices, refutation) Highlight examples of literary language in pink. (character, theme, conflict, mood, tone, symbolism etc.).
Include transitional words to help with flow/organization (i.e. for example, in conclusion, furthermore, however, etc.) Highlight your transition words in green.
